Welcome to "Snake" Gabrielson's Surfing School
Established in
2003, Snake
and his experienced and NSSIA certified instructors have been helping numerous kids and
adults in the Mid-Atlantic Region enjoy the sport of surfing quickly and economically.
During the winter months (Dec - April), only private lessons are offered as the water is too cold.
Groups and camps are only offered during the summer. Our instructor to student ration
is never more then 4 to 1. Beginner lessons concentrate on board
control, wave etiquette, and catching that all-important first wave.
More advanced students learn the more specialized skills of style improvement and wave judgment. The instruction also includes background material from Snake's Book, The Complete Surfing Guide for Coaches. The top students are instructed in what it takes to receive high scores in competitions.
Lessons are normally given in Ocean City or Assateaque Island in Maryland during the morning hours with trips to other areas depending on conditions. Lessons can be scheduled for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or full day (5 hour with break sessions). Besides the Snake, instructors include Aaron Powell and other experienced staff. For all day camp sessions, we put up our tent and offer guests and campers a place for relaxing out of the sun during the day. Rates are very reasonable plus quality boards can be supplied for a slight additional fee.
So drop us a note when you feel the need to improve your skills. We have a great deal of experience with young groms to older folks just wanting to say "I did it." Plenty of beginning students in the Washington DC metro region have already attended and now surf on a regular basis. If you're unsure, think about attending our family oriented surf school camp held the end of August at Assateaque. We also provide lessons for large groups including youth athletic teams.
